Bush talks about improving MPG 20% in the future, while Europeans get 40 mpg now

While Detroit and George Bush talk about cars that get 35 miles per gallon in 10 years, Europe produces cars that typically get 40 miles per gallon now.

Americans would be surprised to know that the Europeans have already designed a low priced car using existing non-hybrid technology that will get 157 mpg.

Assault on free speech

The Pope had his Index of Forbidden Books. Japan had its Thought Police against subversive or dangerous ideologies. And the United States Congress and President Bush have learned nothing from those examples.

Congress is perched to enact the "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 20007 (Act)," probably the greatest assault on free speech and association in the United States since the 1938 creation of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).

Fuel-free Cars may Generate Both Electricity and Cash!

"A revolutionary breakthrough by Magnetic Power Inc., called GENIE™ (Generating Electricity by Nondestructive Interference of Energy) will make possible the elimination of the need for batteries of every variety. GENIE generators are expected to replace the need to plug-in a plug-in hybrid. 2 kW is all the power that can be taken from a typical wall socket. A pair of 1 kW GENIE generators are expected to demonstrate a compact, inexpensive, capability to end the need to plug-in, prior to the end of 2008."

Ron Paul introduces Free Competition in Currency Act

Madame Speaker, I rise to introduce the Free Competition in Currency Act. This act would eliminate two sections of US Code that, although ostensibly intended to punish counterfeiters, have instead been used by the government to shut down private mints. As anti-counterfeiting measures, these sections are superfluous, as 18 USC 485, 490, and 491 already grant sufficient authority to punish counterfeiters.

Understanding American Capitalism

This is an important book about a vast and important subject - economics - which, except for hermits and recluses living in the wilderness, affects just about everyone, every single day, in more ways than most people realize. Understanding economics - or rather, to be more precise, the political economy, a term I amplify later - is critical to any person wishing to make sense of the world, and essential to choosing rationally how to position oneself on the political map.

The voting system is broken, and so are political parties.

Last Friday Ohio's top election official, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner issued a report concluding that the voting systems that decided the 2004 election in Ohio were rife with "critical security failures". The perpetrators were so cocksure they could pull it off that the servers for the computation of the Ohio vote count were in the same basement in Chattanooga, Tennessee that houses servers for the Republican National Committee. The programmers who (worked) for Ken Blackwell, the Republican Secretary of State, were Republicans who did websites for the Bush administration.

So why do we keep throwing billions of dollars down a black hole just to maintain this pathetic charade that fools no one? This year every one of the leading candidates is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Every one of them is a "dual loyalist" with a globalist agenda. Every one of them accepts the new regime of curtailed civil liberties, endless war, and free trade. They're all part of the same corporate effluent that washed into Washington on a wave of special interest payola.

9/11 Truth Manifesto

For evidence that America’s political system is a criminal conspiracy, open your mind to piles of new analyses that prove beyond doubt that the official 9/11 story is a lie. Years of a bipartisan cover-up of 9/11 lies make it much more than one horrendous past event. It endures in infamy as a symptom of a corrupt and dishonest government.

Video -Searl proof of concept

Producing a Commercial Unit

The test devices were built by an engineer in California named Fernando Morris, who has been exposed to the technology for 20 years, having spent seven years working indirectly through Searl associate, John Thomas, and now the last three years directly with Searl. He has been volunteering his time, doing this part-time. Another person came forward with money without controlling strings attached, enabling them to finance the material costs for the project to this point. Additional funding in the order of about £500,000 British pounds will be needed to complete the full SEG, which could happen by June or July of this year. Searl expects that the first production assembly line will cost around £14 million British pounds, but that subsequent lines will not be as much.

The first commercial units, targeted to have a power output of 15 kilowatts -- more than enough to run most any home -- are expected to cost £16,000 British pounds (~$32,000 USD). That price will come down by a factor of ten once the devices are mass produced using robotics.

And the manufactured device is expected to last for at least 50 years.

Searl has mixed emotions about this recent breakthrough in which they now have a device to demonstrate the principle. "It's a very exciting thing," he said. "1968 was the last time I saw magnets rolling around a ring." He is confident that "this time I know we'll get there." On the other, he said, "this should have happened in 1968."

They were further along in the '60s than they are now, with nearly two dozen complete units built and operational.

After the first full SEG is built again and then engineered for production, the government will require that it be tested for safety, further postponing its emergence into the market. Meanwhile, the company is forging the way for five or six production facilities to manufacture the SEG in volume.

Contemplating these steps that will probably take two to five years, the elderly Searl said, "I hope I'll be around long enough to see the SEG in the marketplace."

The American Dream Is Alive and Well ... in Finland!

http://www.alternet.org/module/printversion/70103

Fewer than 1 percent of Americans are millionaires, but almost one in three believe they'll end up among that group at some point.

The belief that our chance of moving up the economic ladder is limited only by our innate abilities and our appetite for hard work is almost universal in the United States. When you define the "American Dream" as the ability of working-class families to afford a decent life -- to put their kids through school, have access to quality healthcare and a secure retirement -- most will tell you it simply doesn't exist anymore. In stark contrast...

Conspiracy? Supression of water fuel cell technology?

There are many urban myths regarding high mileage carburetors and unique energy devices. One of the most common stories is the two hundred miles per gallon carburetor patented and demonstrated in the mid-1930’s by Charles Pogue.

New solar panel 15 times more powerful?

An entrepreneur and an electrician from California say they have exclusive rights to a solar panel that will turn the energy industry on its head and help the environment — a device 15 times more powerful than any other and cheaper to boot.

The pair organized in July as FreEnergy LLC and unveiled their sun-powered generating system to a crowd of about 20 people in North Charleston on Wednesday.

FreEnergy's chief executive is Nelson Mensch, an electrician who moved to Charleston from California this year. He said he was a "total skeptic" when he first heard about the device but vowed that it produces about 3,200 watts of power versus 200 watts cranked out by an average photovoltaic solar panel.

The device is based on traditional silicon-chip technology, but its purported advantage is that it captures all of the light in the solar spectrum, as opposed to about 17 percent in the most efficient photovoltaic cells to date.

New battery breakthrough for electric cars

http://www.physorg.com/news116482073.html

Germans were said to be plodding along behind, but batteries made by the a firm called Li-Tec "take up 30 percent less volume than those from Toyota" and "allow you to go three times further for the same weight than French models," said Tim Schaefer, a director of the company in eastern Kamenz.

"The foundations have now been laid" for the building of electric cars that also deliver performance, he added.

A spokesman for the German tool and auto parts company Bosch said: "It's a step towards totally electric cars."

Housed in a stylish rectangular silver pouch, the "Separion" consists of two lithium electrodes in an electrolyte, or liquid conductor.

What differentiates it from similar batteries is that the electrodes are separated by a flexible ceramic membrane that provides greater thermal stability, according to the German group.

A drawback of lithium-ion batteries is a risk of explosion if they overheat.

According to Felix von Borck, director of the Akasol research center in western Darmstadt, the Separion goes a long way towards resolving that problem.

"It's a true technological break," Borck said. "It is a crucial boost for the success of lithium-ion batteries."

Li-Tec has joined a consortium that includes Bosch, chemical giant BASF and German car maker Volkswagen to develop the product, which has existed for two years.

Options for Reforming the Alternative Minimum Tax

Patch It or Pitch It?

Originally created to prevent the wealthiest Americans from avoiding paying taxes, the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) threatens to ensnare millions of middle income families every year. In past years, Congress has protected these families through annual “patches”, but Congress continues to struggle to put this year’s patch in place, let alone find a more permanent fix. Decisions about whether we should reform the tax, how to do so, and whether or not to pay for any fix, will have profound consequences for the tax system and budget for years to come.

Iran - National Intelligence Estimate report

For those who have doubts about miracles, a double one occurred Monday. An
honest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran’s nuclear program has
been issued and its "key judgments" were made public. With redraft after
redraft, it was what the Germans call "eine schwere Geburt"—a difficult
birth, ten months in gestation.

I do not know how often Vice President Dick Cheney visited CIA
Headquarters during the gestation period, but I am told he voiced his
displeasure as soon as he saw the first sonogram/draft very early this
year, and is so displeased with what issued that he has refused to be the
godfather.

Canadian Judge Invalidates Country's Refugee Treaty With U.S

Canada's treaty with the U.S. on the treatment of refugees is illegal because the U.S. doesn't comply with conventions protecting asylum seekers and sometimes sends people to countries where they may be tortured, a Canadian judge said.

Canada entered into an agreement on the treatment of refugees with the U.S. in 2004, as part of the two countries' ``Smart Borders Declaration.'' The accord bars Canada from considering refugee applications from people who arrive in the country from the U.S. by land. Canada is required to send those asylum seekers back to the U.S.
