A new 9/11 investigative drama that challenges the official version of 9/11 events, 'The Reflecting Pool', is now available on DVD from reflectingpoolfilm.com. 'The Reflecting Pool' follows a journalist who teams up with the father of a 9/11 victim to investigate the official version of the events. Their findings pose a disturbing question that has no easy answer: To what extent was the U.S. Government at fault for the attacks?

FACTS: (1) The NSA approached Qwest more than six months before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. (2) The NSA asked AT&T Inc. to help it set up a domestic call monitoring site seven months before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Dear Mainstream Media -
Please stop repeating the lie that domestic spying began "after the Sept. 11th attacks".

Washington Post -
A former Qwest Communications International executive, appealing a conviction for insider trading, has alleged that the government withdrew opportunities for contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars after Qwest refused to participate in an unidentified National Security Agency program that the company thought might be illegal. Former chief executive Joseph P. Nacchio, convicted in April of 19 counts of insider trading, said the NSA approached Qwest more than six months before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to court documents unsealed in Denver this week.

Bloomberg -
June 30 -- The U.S. National Security Agency asked AT&T Inc. to help it set up a domestic call monitoring site seven months before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, lawyers claimed June 23 in court papers filed in New York federal court.

Bottom Dollar

By cutting interest rates rather than combating inflation, the US is propping up the middle class consumer lifestyle at the expense of the poor.

The economic news of the week: US inflation is now the highest it's been since 1981. In many sectors of the economy - food, energy, healthcare - it's now running at double-digits, and the dollar's value against the euro has plummeted through the $1.50 barrier.

Video - Bush's lies leading to Iraq war

Posted by at 11:49 PM

Center for Public Integrity - Investigative Journalism

Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

http://www.publicintegrity.org/WarCard/Default.aspx?source=home&context=overview&id=945

A recent investigation by the Center for Public Integrity disclosed that the nation’s top public health agency blocked the publication of an exhaustive federal study of environmental hazards in the eight Great Lakes states, reportedly because it contained such potentially “alarming information” as evidence of elevated infant mortality and cancer rates.

Retirees need $225K for medical bills

Fidelity Investments says the average 65-year-old couple should have $225,000 set aside for medical expenses if they're retiring in 2008. That's a 4.7% increase over last year's estimate.

"With health care costs continuing to outpace wage increases and companies trimming retiree health benefits, financing health care has to be central to retirement planning," Fidelity's Brad Kimler says in a press release. "Given current economic conditions, this is especially true for those planning to retire in the next few years or before they qualify for full Social Security or Medicare benefits."

Another reason U.S. Economic Depression is on the horizon

An economy survives and prospers when the money circulates around, creating products that sell to generate more revenue.

In contrast, money taken out of the economy and poured into weapons development is "dead ended." The weapons either sit in storage until they become obsolete and are junked (which costs money to do) or used in war where they are destroyed. In neither case so these expensive devices create products that we can sell to bring more money into the system.

When too much money is dead ended in weapons, too little remains in general circulation to support the society and the infrastructure on which it depends. The economy and that society stutter to a halt, after having suffered through cheapened roads, cheapened schools, cheapened hospitals, etc.

The USSR collapsed when military spending choked the life out of their economy. Why the US Government persists in making the same mistake is a mystery.

Economic costs of war

The war in Iraq will ultimately cost U.S. taxpayers not hundreds of billions of dollars, but an astonishing $2 trillion, and perhaps more. There has been very little in the way of public conversation, even in the presidential campaigns, about the consequences of these costs, which are like a cancer inside the American economy.

On Thursday, the Joint Economic Committee, chaired by Senator Chuck Schumer, conducted a public examination of the costs of the war. The witnesses included the Nobel Prize-winning economist, Joseph Stiglitz (who believes the overall costs of the war — not just the cost to taxpayers — will reach $3 trillion), and Robert Hormats, vice chairman of Goldman Sachs International.

Both men talked about large opportunities lost because of the money poured into the war. “For a fraction of the cost of this war,” said Mr. Stiglitz, “we could have put Social Security on a sound footing for the next half-century or more.”

Matt Yglesias notes, “Few people seem to appreciate it, but it’s quite literally true that al-Qaeda’s strategy is to cripple the U.S. economy by dragging us into quagmires abroad.” Arianna Huffington writes, “The thing about $3,000,000,000,000 is that, at a certain point, it becomes hard to ignore.”

Physician's Proposal for Single Payor Health Care

so different? The short answer is that we alone treat health care as a commodity distributed according to the ability to pay, rather than as a social service to be distributed according to medical need. In our market-driven system, investor-owned firms compete not so much by increasing quality or lowering costs, but by avoiding unprofitable patients and shifting costs back to patients or to other payers. This creates the paradox of a health care system based on avoiding the sick. It generates huge administrative costs, which, along with profits, divert resources from clinical care to the demands of business. In addition, burgeoning satellite businesses, such as consulting firms and marketing companies, consume an increasing fraction of the health care dollar.

We endorse a fundamental change in America’s health care - the creation of a comprehensive National Health Insurance (NHI) Program. Such a program - which in essence would be an expanded and improved version of Medicare - would cover every American for all necessary medical care. Most hospitals and clinics would remain privately owned and operated, receiving a budget from the NHI to cover all operating costs. Investor-owned facilities would be converted to not-for-profit status, and their former owners compensated for past investments. Physicians could continue to practice on a fee-for-service basis, or receive salaries from group practices, hospitals or clinics.

A National Health Insurance Program would save at least $150 billion annually by eliminating the high overhead and profits of the private, investor-owned insurance industry and reducing spending for marketing and other satellite services.

(CSRwire) Washington, DC- Care2 (www.care2.com), the online community of 6 million progressive people, today announced the opening of its first office in Washington, DC to forge closer ties with more than 150 nonprofit organizations that rely on Care2 as a vital source of dedicated members, donors and volunteers.

"Creating a presence in the nation's capital is an important, logical next step for Care2," said CEO Randy Paynter, who founded Care2 in 1998 to empower people who want to lead healthy lives and make a difference. Gold reaches all time high

The dollar was little changed after tumbling as low as $1.5275 per euro, the weakest since the European currency's debut in January 1999.

The UBS Bloomberg Constant Maturity Commodity Index of 26 raw materials climbed to an all-time high yesterday, and is up 16 percent this year, led by increases in wheat, soybean oil and sugar.

Oil today rose above $102 a barrel for the first time.

The Federal Funds rate is 3 percent, and another drop to 2.5 percent on March 18 ``now looks virtually certain,'' John Kemp, an analyst at Sempra Metals Ltd. in London, wrote in an e-mail today.

Gasoline stockpiles reached their highest in 14 years, reinforcing concern among OPEC members that prices are being driven more by a declining U.S. dollar.

Obama - No real change

In the case of Barack Obama - by the choices he has made in picking advisers to help him shape his policies, he has given every indication that while his presidency might represent a better management and presentation of the current system, it will in no way overturn or even seriously challenge it on any essential point.

In other words he will keep doing what Bush has been doing, only more competently, less radically, with a greater care for the long-term viability of the power structure. And what is that structure that Obama seeks to refine and extend? It is an imperial system based on militarism and the exaltation of elitist profit and privilege above all other concerns.

U.S. jails more than any other country

For the first time in U.S. history, more than one of every 100 adults is in jail or prison, according to a new report documenting America's rank as the world's No. 1 incarcerator.

According to the report, the average annual cost per prisoner was $23,876.

Four states — Vermont, Michigan, Oregon and Connecticut — now spend more on corrections than they do on higher education, the report said.

Most likely cities for the next 9/11 are Houston, Chicago and Portland

The easiest way to carry out a false flag attack is by setting up a military exercise that simulates the very attack you want to carry out. As I'll detail below, this is exactly how government perpetrators in the US and UK handled the 9/11 and 7/7 "terror" attacks, which were in reality government attacks blamed on "terrorists."

Industrial Hemp Lawsuit Dismissed in North Dakota

Now it's up to Congress to act --

An Associated Press (AP) report states that “A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the government by two North Dakota farmers seeking to grow industrial hemp, which can be used to make a variety of products from rope to lotion. The judge, Daniel L. Hovland of United States District Court in Bismark, said in his ruling on Wednesday that the best remedy might be to change the definition of industrial hemp under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, which does not distinguish the plant from the illegal drug marijuana.”
